Pastor Dan Fisher of Fairview Baptist Church in Edmond, Oklahoma argued on “Merritt Medical Hour” that liberty is born and protected in the pulpit.
“Liberty is birthed and protected in the pulpit, because the pulpit is the place of truth,” he told program host Dr. Lee Merritt during the Brighteon.TV program’s Sept. 21 episode. “Without the pulpit there will be no morality, and without morality there will be no individual liberty, and tyranny will rule the day.”
According to Fisher, it is wrong to compartmentalize life into the secular and sacred. This, he added, is why he himself does not believe in separating Church and State.
“Today, we have a generation of people who believe that you kind of have two boxes in life, a secular box and a sacred box and you don’t mix them.”
He also told Merritt about his research on the Black Robed Regiment, which he learned about in 2007. According to the pastor, the regiment’s members were the preachers of the American Revolution. They were the reason for Americans declaring their independence, further attesting to his argument that liberty is birthed in the pulpit. Fisher, who served as a state lawmaker at the Oklahoma House of Representatives from 2012 to 2016, made use of presentations and his own book “Bringing Back the Black Robed Regiment” to tell the regiment’s story.
“It tells the story of these preachers and how we wouldn’t be free today if it was not for them. This thing [has] just organically grown until now and, as you’ve seen, it’s kind of a one-man Broadway production with me in period costume and I act on stage. I have multimedia, the big screen, the sound effects, all that stuff so God just kind of used it,” explained Fisher.
The pastor also discussed the Pulpit Freedom Initiative (PFI), which he and his group is using to take down the Johnson Amendment. Fisher said the unconstitutional amendment has been used to silence preachers.
Adopted in 1954, the Johnson Amendment to the Internal Revenue Code prohibited churches and affiliated groups from participating or intervening in “any political campaign on behalf of, or in opposition to, any candidate for public office” as a requirement to maintain their tax-exempt status.
Fisher told Merritt that he and others in the PFI had sent their sermons to the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) in 2008, but the tax agency has not done a thing since then. Despite this, he warned that the government will eventually weaponize the IRS if pastors do not stand up and speak out now.
He also mentioned the development that the IRS is recruiting 87,000 new agents willing to carry a gun and use lethal force if needed.
According to the Washington Examiner, the IRS posted a job opening for these agents. Potential recruits must be willing to work a minimum of 50 hours weekly and be on call 24/7. They must also be “willing and able to participate in arrests, execution of search warrants and other dangerous assignments.”
